After moving to London in early 1911 for a period Gaudier worked as a clerk in the City of London, spending many a lunch-break sketching passers-by in the Whitechapel area. A gentle mocking of the bourgeoisie is often present in these drawings. Here, for example, Gaudier seems to send up the English obsession with their pets.
