Thomas Monnington

Born 1902 – Died 1976

Born in London, from 1918 to 1923, Sir Thomas Monnington studied at the Slade School of Art in London. In 1924 he married the artist Winifred Knights. Between 1931 and 1939 he taught drawing at the Royal Academy schools. In 1938 he was elected Royal Academician and in 1949 joined the Slade School of Art. He would later become President of the Royal Academy.
