Laurence Stephen Lowry

Born 1887 – Died 1976

Lowry was born in Manchester. He is best known as a painter depicting scenes of northern industrial cities, expressing a sense of alienation. He occasionally painted views inspired by the Lake District, such as the picture in Kettle’s Yard.
